This initiative examines the roots and contemporary articulation of political theology as an emerging, interdisciplinary framework for analysing the modern condition.
A key strand of the initiative was a multi-year collaboration and dialogue between Luke Bretherton and the social anthropologist, Valentina Napolitano (University of Toronto), and religious studies and Black studies scholar, Vincent Lloyd (University of Villanova). A serious of colloquia and ongoing conversation has now issued in a book: What is Political Theology? Luke Bretherton, Vincent Lloyd, Valentina Napolitano (Columbia University Press, 2026).
